Guess it's time to fill up your gas can's, and dust off the generator that's been sitting for about 2yrs to make sure it still works.

"Active hurricane season predicted WASHINGTON - Colorado State University meteorologists are predicting a busy 2007 storm season, with a nearly 50 percent chance the Gulf Coast will be hit by a major hurricane.

The school's forecasters said Tuesday that this year's season, which runs from June 1 to Nov. 30, won't be as active as the 2004 and 2005 seasons, but they predicted that 17 named storms will form in the Atlantic.

Nine are expected to be hurricanes, and five of those are likely to be intense or major hurricanes, measuring 3, 4 or 5 on the Saffir-Simpson scale with sustained winds of 111 mph or greater.

''Now is the time to have a plan in place to respond to a hurricane,'' Phil Klozbach of the Colorado State University hurricane forecast team said Tuesday.

The team also predicted:

At least a 74 percent chance a major hurricane will make landfall in the U.S.

A 50 percent chance a major hurricane will make landfall on the East Coast.

A 49 percent chance the Gulf Coast will be hit by a major hurricane.

The team also said there's an above-average risk a major hurricane will make landfall in the Caribbean."
